Chayim Shvarzblat is a Lakewood, New Jersey, watercolor painter, born on December 14, 1954. He studied architecture at the New York School of Art.

In 1975 he moved to Paris and lived with his aunt, a watercolor painter. There he realized that architecture is not his thing and decided to enroll at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris to study painting. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Painting.

In 1980 he earned a Harkness Fellowship and a year later he earned a Guggenheim Fellowship. This painter represented the USA at the 1992 Venice Biennale.

In 1983, Chayim was offered a position at the Oxford University of England. He moved to Oxford immediately and started serving as a-in-residence at Oxford University. He worked there for 3 years. After that he moved to the Mediterranean. Chayim lived in Sicily and in the south of France. Motivated by the beautiful landscapes, he started creating on-location paintings. Over the course of his career, he has created a number of paintings of many countries around the world. His California landscape paintings are his favorites.

Shavarzblat uses the ‘pure’ watercolor technique, also called the ‘English Method’.

In present time, the painter creates his watercolor artworks at his atelier, located in Manhattan. Additionally, Shvarzblat works as a visiting professor at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. He teaches atmospheric watercolor, both in-studio and en plein air.

Chayim Shvarzblat has had over 200 exhibitions. He has presented his aquarelle artworks at the most prestigious galleries around the world. The painter has had his first solo exhibition in 1989 at the Museum of Modern Art in NY.
